Which one to pick

Choose Attio if

  • You want the API, webhooks and an MCP server on a free plan: Attio Free covers up to 3 seats.
  • You want the API to stop duplicates for you: companies are unique on domain and people on email.
  • You want a simple key: one Bearer token per workspace, no OAuth app needed for your own use.
  • Your record count fits Attio's plan limits, from 50,000 on Free to 1,000,000 on Pro.

Choose Salesforce if

  • You load or sync millions of records: Bulk API 2.0 handles up to 150 million a day.
  • You write in batches: sObject Collections take 200 records per call.
  • You need published certifications such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
  • You need change streams through Change Data Capture and the Pub/Sub API.
  • Your company already runs on Salesforce and other teams build on the same org.

If neither fits: Both store your own records. If the real job is finding prospects or their emails, use a data provider first, then load the results into whichever CRM you choose.

Questions people ask

Does Attio have a free plan with API access?

Yes. Attio Free costs $0 for up to 3 seats and 50,000 records, and includes the REST API, webhooks and the MCP server. Only the SQL endpoint is held back for Enterprise.

Which Salesforce plans include API access?

Core ($195), Advanced ($395) and Max ($550) per user a month, billed annually, include the Web Services API. Pro Suite ($100) needs a $25 per user a month add-on. Free Suite and Starter Suite do not include it. A free Developer Edition org has the API with 15,000 calls a day.

How do I avoid duplicate records when writing through the API?

In Attio, use the upsert endpoint with matching_attribute set to domains for companies or email_addresses for people; a repeat updates the same record. In Salesforce, upsert by an external ID field; if more than one record matches, the call returns HTTP 300 with the matches.

Do Attio and Salesforce have MCP servers?

Both do. Attio's is at https://mcp.attio.com/mcp on every plan and signs in with OAuth. Salesforce's hosted MCP servers are generally available for Enterprise Edition orgs and above and are off until an admin enables them.

Can Attio handle bulk imports through the API?

Attio has no batch record endpoint, so records are written one per call at up to 25 writes a second. Salesforce offers sObject Collections for 200 records per call and Bulk API 2.0 for up to 150 million records a day.
