Which one to pick

Choose Attio if

  • You need a CRM to hold people, companies and deals, not a data source.
  • You want a free plan with the API, webhooks and MCP: Attio Free covers up to 3 seats and 50,000 records.
  • You want duplicates blocked by the system: companies are unique on domain and people on email.
  • You want webhooks for record changes on every plan.
  • You price by user and expect a small team: Plus is $35 a user a month billed annually.

Choose Clay if

  • You need to find people and companies and add emails, phones and firmographics from many providers.
  • You want waterfalls across providers without building the fallback logic yourself.
  • You want unlimited seats and pay by usage: actions and data credits from $185 a month.
  • You want to call any HTTP API from a table row (Growth plan).
  • You need a published SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 statement.

If neither fits: If the only job is getting work emails for a list you already have, a single email finder costs less than either. Find and verify the emails, then load them into your CRM.

Questions people ask

What is Clay com used for?

Clay is used to find people and companies and enrich them in a table, pulling from 150+ data providers and its AI agent, then sending the results to a CRM, a sequencer or its own email Sequencer. It is not a CRM; Attio is the CRM in this pair.

What is data enrichment in clay?

In Clay you add an enrichment column to a table and it fills each row from a data provider or a waterfall of providers. Each option shows its cost per row in data credits, for example about 1.1 for a work email waterfall, and rows where nothing is found are not charged. Attio's own enrichment fills company and person profile fields on records you already hold.

Can Clay and Attio work together?

Yes. Clay has an official app in Attio's app directory that syncs prospect and account data both ways. You import Attio records or lists into Clay, enrich and qualify them, and write the results back to Attio.

Which one is free to start?

Both have a free plan. Attio Free gives up to 3 seats, 50,000 records, the API, webhooks and MCP with no card. Clay Free gives 500 actions and 100 data credits a month and up to 200 rows per table, without phone enrichment or the HTTP API column.

Do both have an MCP server?

Yes, both are official and use OAuth. Attio's at https://mcp.attio.com/mcp reads and writes CRM records, lists, notes and tasks. Clay's at https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp finds and enriches companies and contacts and charges the same credits as the app.
