Reverse IP Lookup
Reverse IP lookup is the process of matching an IP address to information about who uses it, such as the domain names hosted on it or the organization it is registered to.
Also called: website visitor identification, IP to company lookup
Why it matters
In networking, reverse IP lookup is used to find the domains hosted on a server. In B2B marketing, a related form matches the IP address of a website visitor to the company network it likely comes from. That lets a team see which companies are researching its site, even when no one fills in a form, and use those visits as a buying signal.
The method has limits. Remote work, mobile networks, VPNs and shared networks mean many visits cannot be matched, and some matches are wrong. It usually identifies a company, not a person.
Example
A company's visitor identification tool shows that someone from a mid-sized insurer viewed its pricing page and two case studies this week. The account is in its target list, so the account owner checks who the likely buyers are, looks for any recent news at the insurer and starts a relevant outreach sequence.
