Content Marketing

Content marketing is the practice of creating and distributing useful content, such as articles, guides, videos and posts, to attract a defined audience and build trust that leads to sales.

Why it matters

Content marketing puts a company's knowledge in front of them during that research, so the brand is already familiar and credible when a need becomes urgent. It also gives sales teams material to share and gives search engines and AI assistants pages to cite.

Content marketing differs from advertising because the content has to be worth reading on its own. It works best when it answers questions the ideal customer actually has, is published consistently, and is distributed through the channels that audience uses, such as search, LinkedIn and email. Teams measure it through traffic, engagement, leads and influenced pipeline.

Example

A company selling compliance software publishes a plain guide to a new reporting rule, a checklist template and a short LinkedIn post series explaining the rule's deadlines. Readers who download the template join a nurture sequence, and the sales team sends the guide to prospects who ask about the rule on calls.
