Sales Engagement Platform

A sales engagement platform is software that runs and tracks multi-step outreach sequences across channels such as email, phone and LinkedIn, and records the activity in the CRM.

Also called: sequencing tool, sales engagement software

Why it matters

Outbound and follow-up involve many small, timed steps across many prospects. A sales engagement platform organizes those steps into sequences, schedules them, reminds reps about manual tasks such as calls, stops the sequence when someone replies, and reports on which messages and steps get responses.

These platforms sit next to the CRM rather than replacing it. The CRM holds the record of accounts, contacts and deals, while the engagement platform handles the day-to-day outreach. Teams get the most from them with verified contact data, sending domains set up for deliverability, and sequences written for specific segments.

Example

An SDR team builds a five-step sequence for operations leaders at logistics companies: an email, a LinkedIn connection request, a call task, a follow-up email and a final short email. The platform sends the emails, assigns the call tasks to the right rep each morning, removes anyone who replies and logs every touch in the CRM.
