How to get an API key

TheirStack uses API key. The steps below follow TheirStack's own docs.

Create a TheirStack account. The Free plan includes API access.
app.theirstack.com > Settings > API Keys > Create API key (expiry date or Never; shown once)
Send it with every request: header: Authorization: Bearer <token>.

Make a first call: Get Email Preferences. Keep the key in an environment variable, never in the command.

Worth knowing

Job Search requires a date or company filter; a company filter with 50+ values also needs a posted_at filter (OpenAPI /v1/jobs/search).
Repeated API calls for the same records are charged every time; the 90-day free re-view applies only to app company credits, not API credits.
Preview/blur mode (blur_company_data=true, 0 credits) is being retired over the API: only workspaces created before 2026-08-11 that have paid at least once keep it.
Counting now costs one record (1 or 3 credits) unless nothing matches.
Free tier is capped at 400 requests/day and 25 results x 5 pages; one payment ever lifts you to paid limits.

Our take

Our signal-system playbook uses TheirStack for technographic account lists and job-posting signals, on an API key the client owns. In July 2026 we measured that a count in preview (blur) mode cost 0 credits, while every revealed company row cost 3 API credits, including companies we had pulled before. TheirStack has since limited preview mode to older workspaces that have paid at least once, so on a new account a count costs credits.

Who should use it
