Speed to Lead
Speed to lead is the time between a lead taking an action that shows interest, such as filling in a demo form, and the company's first meaningful response to them.
Also called: lead response time
Why it matters
A lead who has just asked for a demo is thinking about the problem right now. The longer the response takes, the more likely they are to move on, talk to another vendor or forget why they asked. Fast follow-up turns that moment of interest into a conversation while it still matters to them.
Shortening response time is mostly a routing problem. Teams set rules that assign each new lead to the right owner immediately, alert that person, and in some cases let the lead book a meeting directly from the form. They track the time from form fill to first contact as a regular metric, including outside working hours.
Example
A company finds that demo requests wait an average of a full working day before anyone replies. It adds a booking calendar to the confirmation page and routes each request to the account owner with an instant alert. Most requests now get a reply or a booked meeting within the hour.
