Limits apply per API key; numbers are not published.

More on limitsLess

Exceeding them returns 429 {"error":"rate\_limited","retry\_after":<seconds>}; retry after the window indicated by headers. Neither the docs nor the OpenAPI spec give figures. Paginated list endpoints return 15 records per page (data/links/meta).

## How to get an API key

EmailBison uses API key. The steps below follow EmailBison's own docs.

1. Create a EmailBison account. API access starts on the Base Plan plan.
2. Settings -> Developer API -> New API Token. 'api-user' tokens are scoped to the workspace they were created in (recommended). 'super-admin' tokens impersonate their creator and follow that user's current workspace.
3. Send it with every request: header (Authorization: Bearer <token>).
4. Make a first call: Account Details, This endpoint retrieves the details of the authenticated user. The user must provide a valid authentication token in the request header to access this endpoint. Keep the key in an environment variable, never in the command.

    ```
    curl -X GET "https://send/api/users" \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $EMAILBISON_API_KEY"
    ```

## Strengths and limits

### Where it fits

- Agencies and teams sending hundreds of thousands of emails a month that want dedicated IPs and no per-seat or per-lead fees
- Multi-workspace (multi-client) builds driven by API: create workspaces, users and api-user tokens per workspace
- Clay-driven pipelines (documented Clay HTTP recipes for find/create lead, import to campaign, blocklist)
- Webhook-driven reply handling with replayable event history (10 days)

### Where it falls short

- Small senders: the entry price is $599/mo for 500k emails
- LinkedIn outreach (pair with HeyReach, which has a native EmailBison step)
- Anyone who needs documented API rate-limit numbers (the developers page says limits apply per key and returns 429 with retry\_after, but publishes no figures)

### Worth knowing

- There is no single API host: every customer has its own instance, and the base URL is whatever domain you log in on. Docs examples use dedi.emailbison.com.
- The OpenAPI spec linked from llms.txt (docs.emailbison.com/api-reference/openapi.json) returns 404. The real spec is the Scalar data-url at <instance>/api/reference.openapi.
- super-admin tokens follow the creating user's CURRENT workspace, so a script can silently start writing into another client's workspace when that user switches. Use per-workspace api-user tokens.
- Bulk lead creation silently skips personal-domain addresses (gmail.com etc.) unless support enables them on your instance.
- Leads attached to an active campaign are cached and synced every 5 minutes, so a read-back straight after the call can look incomplete.

5 moreShow fewer

- List endpoints page at 15 records, so a full export needs many calls; rate limits are per key but no figures are published, so throttle and honour 429 retry\_after.
- SSO (SAML) and SCIM exist, but SCIM requires an enterprise plan.
- The extra-send-bucket price above 500k/month is not published.
- HubSpot and Salesforce sync are 'Powered by OutboundSync' (a third-party connector), not a native EmailBison integration.
- The endpoint list on the marketing developers page does not match the OpenAPI spec (e.g. it shows POST /api/campaigns/{id}/pause and POST /api/webhooks; the spec has PATCH /api/campaigns/{campaign\_id}/pause and /api/webhook-url). Build from the spec.

## Before you build

Four things to settle first, each read off EmailBison's own pages.

- **Confirm the API is on your plan**API access starts on the Base Plan plan.

- **Keep the key out of your code**API key. It is sent as: header (Authorization: Bearer <token>).

- **Design around the rate limit**Limits apply per API key; numbers are not published.

- **Know the catch before you scale**There is no single API host: every customer has its own instance, and the base URL is whatever domain you log in on. Docs examples use dedi.emailbison.com.

**Base URL:** Per-customer instance: the URL you log in with (e.g. [send.<yourdomain>.com](https://send.<yourdomain>.com)); the demo/reference instance is [dedi.emailbison.com](https://dedi.emailbison.com). Paths start with /api/.

**Bulk and async:** Bulk lead create/upsert 500 per request; CSV lead upload endpoint; attach a whole lead list to a campaign; bulk delete; bulk daily-limit updates for sender emails.

**Webhooks:** Events: Email Sent, Manual Email Sent, Contact First Emailed, Contact Replied, Contact Interested, Contact Unsubscribed, Untracked Reply Received, Email Opened, Email Bounced, Email Account Added, Email Account Removed, Email Account Disconnected and 11 more. Retries: Failed deliveries are retried up to five times across the next 24 hours (developers page); an attempt with no response in 15 s times out. Events, deliveries and attempts are kept for 10 days and can be resent via UI or API (/api/events, resend on webhook\_attempt\_id).
