GTM Glossary

# Third-Party Data

Third-party data is information about people or companies that is collected by an outside provider from many sources, then sold or licensed to businesses that did not collect it themselves.

Also called: 3rd party data

## Why it matters

Third-party data lets a company learn about accounts and buyers it has never interacted with. B2B teams use it for firmographics, technographics, contact details, intent topics and company news, which feed list building, ICP scoring and targeting before any first-party relationship exists.

Because the data is gathered at scale from many sources, accuracy and freshness vary between providers and between records. Teams check coverage and accuracy on a sample before buying, and verify contact details before using them.

## Example

A company buys access to a provider's database of company headcount and technology data. It filters for companies that use a particular accounting system and have grown their finance team in the past year, verifies the emails of the finance leaders at those companies, and builds its outbound list from them.
