GTM Glossary

# RevOps (Revenue Operations)

RevOps (revenue operations) is the function that runs the systems, data and processes behind marketing, sales and customer success as one connected revenue engine instead of separate teams.

Also called: RevOps, revenue operations

## Why it matters

Without RevOps, each team owns its own tools and definitions. Marketing reports leads, sales reports pipeline and customer success reports renewals, and the numbers often do not match. RevOps owns the CRM, the tech stack, lead routing, data quality, forecasting and the shared definitions of funnel stages, so every team reads the same numbers.

RevOps differs from sales operations, which serves only the sales team, and from marketing operations, which runs campaigns and marketing tools. Typical work includes cleaning and enriching CRM data, deduplicating records, building attribution and dashboards, and setting the rules for how leads move from marketing to sales. Teams often measure it through forecast accuracy, data completeness and speed to lead.

## Example

A software company finds that marketing counts 300 qualified leads a month while sales says it receives 150. A RevOps lead traces the gap to two different lead stage definitions and a routing rule that drops leads with no owner. She writes one shared definition, fixes the routing in the CRM and builds a single dashboard that both teams use in their weekly meeting.
